Whatever Brings You Happiness
The work Whatever Brings You Happiness is a diesel-free ATB Man Lion's City bus transformed into a mobile installation. The vehicle a hot shade of pink all over, a colour much loved by designer Peter Fink, who in 2014 transformed Bergamo's Piazza Vecchia with this shade of fuchsia for the Maestri del Paesaggio event. The two sides of the bus are decorated with the geometric motifs that are also seen on the Christmas Design logo. The bus, which will continue to function in this artistic version, will move around the streets of Bergamo in service on all the different urban lines by rotation. It will bring many smiles of joy to passers-by, and not only for its vibrant colours: the rear of the bus ironically shows the infectious smile of Fink himself as he pays homage to Yayoi Kusama. We asked the artist to tell us what his work represents: "Whatever brings you happiness", he replied, alluding to the title of the installation. Everyone, therefore, will find the answer within themselves.
ATB (Azienda Trasporti Bergamo - Bergamo's Public Transport Corporation)
ATB has made Bergamo a city "within reach". Tens of thousands of travelers get on its vehicles every day and thanks to an increasingly diesel-free fleet the city is also greener. ATB manages urban public transport in the capital city of the province and in 29 neighboring municipalities. Founded in 1907 and structured into various companies led by ATB Mobilità Spa, the company has established itself as a point of reference in the collective transport system of people and in integrated mobility systems.
Its activities include the management of the funicular railway service, bus and tram services, regulated parking, infomobility, the ZTL (limited traffic zones) within the Municipality of Bergamo, and bike sharing with La BiGi. Its mission is to increasingly support sustainable mobility and make the public transport experience user friendly. With this in mind, ATB Mobilità Spa invests in environmental sustainability and technological innovation.
In fact, digitalisation will lead to the activation of the Electronic Ticketing service in autumn with the Chip on paper system for occasional passengers and the Smart Card for regular commuters. ATB also continues with the acquisition of electric vehicles (such as the 10 Yutongs in service since September) or hybrids (such as the 7 MAN Lion's City 18 meter CNG Efficient Hybrid) for the complete conversion of the fleet to "diesel free" by 2030.
The important link with the city is confirmed by participation in the cultural associations of the area (ATB is a founding member of the "Bergamo nella Storia" Foundation - ONLUS, a member of the "BergamoScienza" Association - ONLUS, of the Foundation for the Economic and Social History of Bergamo and the Centre for Environmental Ethics) and contributes to Christmas Design 2023, by participating with the artwork Whatever Brings You Happiness designed by Peter Fink.

Peter Fink
Peter Fink was born in London and has worked for over 40 years as a designer, artist and creative director around the world. An eclectic landscape architect, he has consolidated his interests by establishing himself on the international scene through a series of award-winning projects that combine art, urban planning, landscape and ecology.
Peter Fink's practice stems from his multifaceted background and combination of skills, thanks to degrees in Engineering, Philosophy and Visual Arts. He founded Studio Fink to focus on developing high-impact artistic projects that address issues of social and environmental sustainability. A champion in the use of colour, he often uses the most saturated and vibrant tones.
He has designed numerous creations for Bergamo, including the memorable "Pink Metamorphosis" of Piazza Vecchia in 2014, a land art project created in collaboration with Lucia Nusiner. His Northala Fields park of artificial hills, in London, was recently selected by a publication of the authoritative Routledge Designed Landscapes among the 37 most significant landscape design works in the world built from the Renaissance to today.
Studio Fink creates innovative, contemporary art and design solutions that avoid preconceived styles and respond directly to the social and environmental context. By inviting people to participate in the process, Fink brings to life new places that embody the values of their inhabitants and users, contributing positively to their environment and infusing vitality into their economy. His long-standing interest in art, architecture and ecology has also extended into the academic world through lecturing at many universities around the world.
