Christmas Pop

Christmas Pop is an interactive installation conceived as an unconventional Christmas tree, which projects lights and plays of coloured shadows on the architecture of the Donizetti Theatre and the ‘Sentierone’, in the heart of Downtown Bergamo. There is no explicit reference to real tree-shapes: the artwork consists of a transparent plexiglass structure that is a reminder of the peaks of the Dolomites, but also of the Bergamo Alta skyline. The work comes alive in the evening with a play of light. The main lights are directed towards the transparent "blades" which combine with the shadows of people as they move across, creating unusual luminous acrobatics all around....

Designer

Massimo Castagna

Massimo Castagna was born in Italy in 1957, graduated from the Polytechnic of Milan in 1984, and founded the AD Architettura studio in 1986. He has always dealt with architecture, interiors and design according to an approach that links the three disciplines together in a coordinated spatial design.

His contemporary language, never shy in its aesthetics, shuns fashions and trends.

Purity, naturality and tactility of materials, but also a touch of art are essential elements in the work of the AD studio, which focuses on the perceptions of the senses and the physical experience of space.

Massimo Castagna's work has influenced the evolution of design in general, and

interior design in particular over the last decade, in balance between form, material and artisan manufacturing techniques, seeking expressiveness as a whole. His approach is strongly linked to the wisdom of the hands, know-how as the true essence of Made in Italy, ranging from product design for high quality Italian brands to interior design and architecture for high-level residences between Italy and Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the United States.

Massimo Castagna’s works are on exhibit in international museums such as the Shatchi Gallery in London, the Moma in New York and the Triennale in Milan. He hasreceived numerous awards and nominations.

Since the year 2000 he has been Creative Director for many important Italian furniture brands, including Minotti, Giorgetti, Henge, Exteta, Gallotti&Radice, Flou, Acerbis International, Tonelli design, Ceccotti Collezioni, Rossana kitchens, KNindustria, Roda and many others. His work has been presented in the most prestigious international publications for years.

He was a teacher at the Politecnico di Milano for 10 years, holding courses on strategy and design criteria for furniture sales outlets. The Pyramid laboratory for the Everest-K2-CNR scientific committee created for the National Research Council, installed in Nepal since 1991 at an altitude of 5050 m, is among his most significant achievements. Massimo Castagna participates in Christmas Design 2023 with the work Christmas Pop, created thanks to the contribution of Zenucchi Design Code and exhibited in Largo Gianandrea Gavazzeni in Bergamo.
