EPIFÀNIA. Incorporare l’imprevisto

‘Incorporare l’imprevisto’ or ‘incorporate the unexpected’ is an ephemeral cloud made up of petals created from waste production materials and arranged around a nucleus that seems to come alive as the day passes. Suspended in the vaults of the portico of the Palazzo della Ragione, it hovers in the air releasing voices, sounds, lights, colours and images collected as it wanders in a now unpredictable world.

The poetry of a starry night-sky, of a green meadow, the unknown life of the abyss, the solidity of the earth, the stillness of a breath of wind or a light summer rain are suddenly shaken by unexpected scenarios. The result is a three-dimensional object that creates a nebulous atmosphere. A sky to be admired from outside the portico, but also to be traversed with your face turned upwards.

The cloud manifests itself through its formal and sculptural presence at the break of dawn. Small movements touch the petals as they float in the air emitting original, sometimes surprising, voices and sounds, and when the light of the winter days fades, Epifània tells of the four elements: AIR, FIRE, EARTH, WATER. Immutable and dramatic.

All around, Giorgio Milesi’s Fiabe al Plurale Non Sense, imprinted on fragments of the cloud, fly away to reach tables of bars and restaurants in Piazza Vecchia. On the front part of each is a descriptive text, on the back one of the 160 fairy tales screen-printed in invisible ink and seen only under particular environmental conditions. Unique and rare handcrafted pieces of fabric to carry away and preserve as small works of art.

These ideals have linked many of the international design names to the company: from Atelier Oï to Giandomenico Belotti, Riccardo Blumer, Dante Bonuccelli, Mario Botta, Gabriele and Oscar Buratti. And more: Michele De Lucchi, Sou Fujimoto, Alfredo Häberli, James Irvine, Pio Manzù, Alberto Meda, Francesco Meda, Jasper Morrison, Nendo, Patrick Norguet, Ludovica and Roberto Palomba, Pearson Lloyd, Simon Pengelly, Eugeni Quitllet, Paolo Rizzatto and Philippe Starck. Constant attention to avant-garde creativity and the evolution of lifestyle acts as a catalyst for this exchange of ideas open to formal and technological experimentation.

This vision is guided by the industrial solidity of a company that controls every phase of the process, from design to production, all the way to distribution. With its headquarters in Grumello del Monte, near Bergamo, Alias relies on a global distributor network. The highly expressive style of its products offers solutions for residential, contract and outdoor environments, emphasizing the intellectual value of design over a flashy image.
