INTO THE WIND - FLIGHTS AND METAMORPHOSIS OF THE DANDELION

The project draws inspiration from the dandelion, symbolizing its natural metamorphosis—from its transformation into a dandelion clock to the delicate dispersal of its seeds by the wind—as an allegory for the metamorphosis of dreams. Dreams, light and numerous like dandelion seeds, represent childhood aspirations that evolve into adult ambitions through time and experience. The spherical seed head of the dandelion is a beloved and familiar symbol. Its metamorphosis begins with the opening of the seeds, depicted in the installation through a generously sized structure featuring a radial arrangement of aluminum tubes; each seed is rendered as a "luminous flower." Warm, intermittent yellow lights give the installation a radiant and embracing appearance. Variations between cool and warm white flashes symbolize the transition and movement of the dandelion’s opening and closing, evoking the delicate nature of its fluffy seeds ready to be carried by the wind. Onlight PF

For over 50 years, Onlight PF, founded by Franco Pozzi in Capriate San Gervasio (BG), has been designing and creating decorative lighting for Christmas celebrations in various towns and cities across Northern Italy. Their installations evoke emotions, tell stories, and transform physical spaces into scenes of wonder and warmth, where light becomes a universal language that speaks directly to the heart.

Their experience, close collaboration with municipalities, public entities, associations, and merchants, as well as designs tailored to the local context, allow them to create customized projects that deliver unique and evocative results while respecting the environment and local community. Many of their installations include advanced technologies, such as Smart LED light shows, luminaries with background music, 3D megastructures, architectural projections, and greenery setups. They have also introduced reflective mirror-effect lighting to minimize the need for additional light sources.

Every project is meticulously designed, achieving perfect harmony between light, sound, and the spirit of the season, creating atmospheres that are not only ideal for the festive season but also for local celebrations and patronal feasts.

Designer

Nicola Colombo

The connection between Nicola Colombo, Onlight PF, and Christmas design is subtle yet pervasive.

After graduating from Giulio Natta Scientific High School, Nicola followed his passion for creativity and engineering, earning a degree in Industrial Product Design at the Politecnico di Milano and later a master’s degree in Design and Engineering. During his master’s studies, Nicola began working as a freelance designer for various companies, developing a project-oriented approach characterized by technical precision, a skill honed through his scientific education.

As a product designer, his work ranges from designing components for electronic and industrial devices to creating luminous scenographies. He has specialized in this field through his long-standing collaboration with Onlight PF, where he is now an integral team member.

Before Into the Wind. Flights and Metamorphosis of the Dandelion, Colombo created three-dimensional luminous structures installed in squares and on buildings during the Christmas season, contributing to iconic projects that transform urban spaces.
